2024
The Abu Dhabi 3x3 Basketball League competitions will begin on Saturday, 20 January, 2024, at the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and in coordination with the International Basketball Federation. 48 teams are set to compete for prizes valued at a total of AED 157,000.
The tournament will be held over the weekends from 20 January to 24 February, with the participation of Abu Dhabi’s Al Jazira, Al Wahda, Al Dhafra, Baniyas and Al Ain clubs, in addition to the community teams. The teams will be divided into 8 groups that will play in a single round system, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final match, which will be held on Saturday, 24 February.
His Excellency Suhail Al Arifi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, confirmed that 3x3 basketball attracts a large volume of spectators, being very popular among the Arab and foreign communities in Abu Dhabi in particular and the UAE in general. This encouraged the Abu Dhabi Sports Council to launch the tournament, in cooperation and coordination with the International Basketball Federation.
Al Arifi said: “The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has organised and hosted the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Abu Dhabi since 2015 until the last tournament that was held in Al Ain in October 2023. During that period, we also organised many community tournaments that attracted thousands of participants, which increased the popularity of this sport in Abu Dhabi. This prompted us to announce the upcoming tournament on 20 January.”
